Held every September on the Monterey Fairgrounds site where the Festival was first presented in 1958 the Monterey Jazz Festival began as a dream for founder Jimmy Lyons and his co-founder and colleague, Ralph Gleason. It was a dream of a “sylvan setting with the best jazz people in the whole world playing on the same stage, having a whole weekend of jazz.” The first edition of the festival brought in artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, John Lewis, Shelly Manne, Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, Ernestine Anderson, Harry James, Max Roach, and Billie Holiday. TD Ottawa Jazz Festival

Earshot Jazz Festival
Earshot Jazz Festival is Seattle’s premier jazz event. The foundation behind the festival (Earshot Jazz) was founded in 1984 and over time turned into a 33 day festival in October and November, hosting over 50 concerts every year! The festival has been described by Jazztimes as ‘Seattle’s most important Jazz event’ and besides promoting up and coming talent, Earshot Jazz has also hosted jazz greats from all over the world including Bill Frisell, Tony Williams, Keith Jarrett and Dee Dee Bridgewater among many others. During the festival period, young musicians get the opportunity to visit concerts as well as join workshops, attend panel discussions and perform with local student ensembles.
